Today is our day to do some wildlife viewing on the Cano Negro River, near the town of Chiles, not far from the ocean and the Nicaraguan border. It was a two hour bus through agricultural lands, no more mountains, to the town of La Fortuna. We saw fields of sugarcane, pineapples, oranges, and many other unidentifiable crops. Its not very pretty. Everything along the roadway looks like its 50 years old and run down. You never see anything new. All the buildings have rusty, corrugated metal roofs. Old vehicles abandoned all over.
We arrived at the dock in the Cano Negro River to get on our boat, the same type that we had on our Lake Arenal trip yesterday - its the same company. This dock area used to be a major hub for river traffic going to Guatemala. Recently a bridge was built eliminating the need for the river, an improvement cheered by environmentalists.
The weather is warm and humid with passing showers. The bright high clouds makes photography really challenging (as does a messed up camera). We spent about two hours on the river, searching for wildlife. We probably wouldn't have seen anything except for the sharp eyes of our guide and our boat driver. They truly are "eagle eyed".

- Two Toed Sloth
After our river tour we went back to La Fortuna for a late lunch. We opted for Pollo Fortuneno. It was awesome!!
Back to our hotel by 4:00, soak in the hot springs pool, dinner at the hotel restaurant.
